Hampton Court Flower Show 11th July
A ladies day that proved to be full of fun and interest. After a dull start the weather changed and the show displays which were so beautifully and lovingly constructed, brightened and the exhibits came to life, their many colours now showing at their best. Personally the day took a different turn when quite unexpectedly I came across an entry from Thetford (where I live ) which won Silver in the “Best Show Garden” category for it’s Thetford themed garden. What an amazing achievement for its creators who were chuffed to bits ! An excellent day out thoughly enjoyed by all! Christine G |

May Craft Day at Jeannes - What fun we had!
8th May
We took our excellent seats at The Savoy Theatre to watch Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with great anticipation. Orchestra, lights and the Company transported us to the South of France.
A very good script kept us amused all the way through -as well as the beautiful costumes and stage set we certainly could not help but enjoy the performance.
Next stop afternoon tea at The Strand Hotel - just across the road from the Theatre! What an entry the Hatters made with lots of red and purple in abundance and happy smiling faces from all around.
The staff and visitors at The Strand made us very welcome and several of them were “snapping” away with cameras and phones.
A nice cuppa etc. was served and the buzz of happy hatters only fell silent when a noise of breaking china or glass was heard from a table behind us. We thought “poor waiters” and carried on enjoying ourselves. Little did we realize that our dear outdoor girl Sandra was trying a bit of indoor entertainment for fellow hatters! Sorry outdoor girl I know you were only trying to pass the cake stand.
We left The Strand with happy goodbyes to all and climbed aboard our coach for the journey home.
Thank you Viv and all involved in making an overcast day such fun. Wendy – Red Hat Bee - Bardwell

25th -2 7th April
On the weekend spanning 25th - 27th April, Sandra and I joined a band of brave and merry Red Hatters to savour the delights of The Peak District. This also included our very own Janet S and her fellow friends in the Vermillion Vixens. We were looking forward to staying in Castleton YHA , high up in the Peak District. Tessa Angel was our Queen from the Not-Stuck-in-a-Rut Chapter and told us to prepare for a Sweet Sixteen theme to the proceedings to celebrate the sixteenth year of The Red Hats Society.
"Fresh air and fun" Sandra had promised me, and as I looked at the long term rain and wind forecast for the area the night before I was beginning to rue the whole idea! But what an absolutely exhilerating experience we had. The weather was bright and clear, the peaks and valleys lifted your spirits ant the amount of animals and wildlife we brushed against was a real tonic and change to routine.
We arrivedFriday pm to our very own private YHA Mews which had formally been a Victorian Gate House to the main Large Rectory across the cobbled walkway. We also had two constantly bubbling Hot Tubs in our own courtyard. Bliss!
We found to our amusement, and possibly their chagrin, that our courtyard was a shared access for a very fit group of lycra clad male cyclists . They did not know which way to look as they had to walk the gauntlet of 30 plus Hatters inviting them into their Tubs... tee hee.
Some of the weekend highlights included
Meals and Drinks in the Mews prepared by Tess our Rutland Queen (who can improve upon a cooked breakfast pot of sausage, bacon, egg and bread in a muffin pan !)
Singing along with Audrey and Rex to "My Fair Lady", What a hoot!
A hike and climb up and along the Peak to Mam Tor, which nearly blew us all off the ridge (but what a view and buzz we felt)
A Saturday themed evening of 'Sweet Sixteen', dressed accordingly, with an amazing castle cake including ice cream cone turrets, plus hilarious games and challenges; Sandra and I were in the winning team :-)
An exciting Archery session that kept you on your toes for fear of flying arrows.
Sandra and I met Hatters from far and wide; Vixens, Millies, Crackers, Tarts, Slingbacks, Rutters etc. All jolly Hatters, laughing, hot tubbing, discussing what really matters...We enjoyed their group and also individual company. Everyone has a backstory and I felt very privileged to be trusted with others cares and at times concerns. This was my first experience of an extended time away with other Hatters and I felt the thread connecting us all was very clear. A real hoot at one extreme and a significantly humbling experience at the other. Amazing.....

25th April
International Red Hat Day
Four of us went to Peterborough to celebrate this happy occasion and meet other Hatters from East Anglia. Viv very kindly offered to drive Mazza, Ruthie and me.
Such a shame that so few of us attended but it was a busy Hatting week and other outings to enjoy too. It was a dismal damp morning but we all felt
happy to be meeting lots more Hatters.
We parked in the huge multi storey car-park and walked under cover to the
Queensgate Shopping Mall where we stopped for a superb coffee first before
setting off to the centre area for the photo shoot. This was intended to be
in front of the Cathedral, so pleased that an alternative had been
arranged.
There were nearly 70 Red Hatters, so we aroused lots of interest and lots
of cameras were flashing!!!! Including a press photographer.
It was good to meet old friends and see lots of new faces too.
After lots of smiles and laughs we dispersed to do as we pleased, yes you
guessed it, we four went shopping!!!
I think that we all bought something and were pleased with our bargains.
Mazza turned our second stop for coffee into a nail bar when she did
Ruthie's nails...
Then we all met up again for a well deserved tea. We four had a savoury
tea, as our lunch, which was most enjoyable.
A good day out and I look forward to the next one.

St Georges Day
A popular event this - not one but two reports!
On Wednesday 23rd April a patriotic bunch of us, plus a generous admix of Vermillion Vixens gathered at the Dun Cow to celebrate St George's Day (not to mention Shakespeare's birthdate too) A double English date! Following an initial meet and greet time intermingling with all involved, we found ourselves subtly mixed within a seating plan in the Dining Room.
And what a scene! We were led into the Dining area which had been transformed into a sea of red and white. Glorious room and table decorations, produced by our very own Queen, consisted of St George's Day Flags flying from every conceivable height and surface. it was breathtaking. This is not forgetting the distinctly delicIous dragons favours made by "Sheep Lady Jane" of Bardwell too. Yummy.
Alan and Denise then conjured up a very English four course meal for us in the very best Roast Beef tradition. Scrumptious. Wine flowed and laughter followed. But the best was yet to come.
At the Peak of the evening we all rose with Pride and Passion to sing our National Anthem "God Save Our Gracious Queen" plus of course our own Red Hat Bees Anthem with a chorus that included an adapted version as a gesture to our Vixen visitors. A notable triumph, that was requested more than once during the evening!
It was all "such fun" as Miranda would say.....

The Red Hat Bees of Bardwell were joined by The Vermilion Vixens at The Dun Cow Bardwell
on Wednesday 23rd April to celebrate St George's Day. At our beautifully decorated
table with suitably themed favors, twenty two Hatters enjoyed a traditional English Roast
Beef Dinner with all the trimmings and wine, followed by a choice of three desserts, then
cheese and biscuits, and tea or coffee to finish our meal. Ros supplied song sheets for our
sing along, and Dee led us in several other popular songs. A truly memorable way to
celebrate St George's Day, and a big thank you to Viv for organising the evening and also to
Denise and Alan from the Dun Cow for a delicious meal, and making us so welcome. Janet S

Report from Christine
Day One
Four
of us joined other Red Hatters for this Weekend. We travelled by Coach and Ferry to Sandown
and stayed at The Carlton Hotel. Fun filled days and evenings to be enjoyed by
all.
Day Two
After early morning shopping at the Vectis
Belle shop we then joined our coach for a Tour of this beautiful Isle which included
a lunch stop. The weather was glorious and made it a day to remember.
Evening entertainment during the Masquerade
Ball included a competition for the best Mask and this was won by our own
Jeannie Jackson. The Champagne prize will I am sure be enjoyed. A lot of swinging of the hips and laughter
made for a real fun evening.
Day Three
Shopping and a half day Tour followed by a
delicious Cream Tea at the Busy Bees Garden Centre which I might add did nothing for our
waistlines. Then more entertainment and a Grand Raffle
with many prizes being won by our ladies from Bardwell.
A perfect end to a wonderful Weekend further
enjoyed by meeting so many interesting Hatters
Randalls Ribbons 7th March 2014
Today eight of us had a very jolly trip over to Randall's in Luton . Stopping for coffee on the way over at The George & Dragon in Graverly we were warmly welcomed by Jason wonderful mine host, he could not have done enough for us . The folks at Randall's were as helpful as ever; each of us came away with at least one new hat each and Jeanne out shopped us all stocking up for the craft classes which she will start shortly . On the return visit to Graverly we met up with Mags and three of her chapter, "Fiery Fascinators. " All twelve of us enjoyed a super lunch and in true Red Hat style lots of laughs . A really good day . Photos testify to that .
February 14th
On a wet & windy St Valentines Day 8 Bardwell Batty Bees braved the weather to help promote Hatting at Bury Library "What's out There " . A week long event held at the Library showcasing clubs & organisations in the local area .
Staff at the Library were quite taken with us & said if they were giving a prize for the best stand over the week we would have won hands down .
We spent the day talking to many different people; some prospective members , some just curious othesr who knew of people they thought would enjoy Hatting .
Without doubt we made people smile . Thanks to Ros for making the flyers & posters , Jeanne for helping to set up & pack away . Not forgetting Jo , Ruthie , Jules , Janet , Carol , & Mazza for being on hand to chat & explain Hatting one & all .
A very worth while & enjoyable day.
